Once in a while, I realized I haven't updated this blog and felt guilty about it, because it's supposed to record what i've done during this year. If I only post an entry every 2 weeks, it defeats the purpose of logging my activities.
Anyway, where have I been? Um... made a few cards, still attending the baby step dance course, reading books and looking up vegas tourist info for my parents. Perhaps I haven't traveled for a long time, looking up some vegas info this time is more exciting than I was planning my trip about a year ago!! Hopefully I have a chance to travel soon.... with baby R!!
Speaking of books, I'm reading the "baby read-aloud" book. It's a pretty good book and I learned a few things from the book:
1. Talk more to the child
That I know. But I didn't know that there's research saying if you talk more to your baby, they will build up more vocabularies than kids with parents do not talk to them much or not use as much adjectives as the other parents. The differences are quite significant!
2. No TV
That I know too. I never really know why babies can't watch TV, just think that it's no good for them. The book says TV shows images in a very short time, that will make them less able to concentrate. On the other hand, if you read books to them (keep in mind that this book is called "baby read aloud basics"), they get used to reading in a quiet environment.
3. Read aloud is different from normal conversation
I thought for babies at early stage, it doesn't really matter whether i read aloud from a book or i talk to them, as long as they hear how the words, rhythm and pitch work together. However, this book says there are more occurrence of "rare words" when you read from a book than you speak, which is very true. That's also about building up vocabularies.
Let me dig up some books and read it to baby R tmr!!
